Students learn to sew at the Betania trade school in Chinandega, Nicaragua. The school teaches children skills including sewing, metalwork, woodworking, and food preservation. It was founded by a Roman Catholic priest after he saw children scavenging for food at Chinandega's garbage dump. With support from Rotary Foundation grants and Rotary clubs in the United States, the Betania campus has expanded to provide health care facilities, a church, a music conservatory, and general education for children from kindergarten through high school.
